Our silver nursing pads also protect the delicate nipple area from direct contact with clothing. NO CREAMS OR LOTIONS NEEDED: Unlike with nipple cream, Koala Silver Cups won’t alter the taste or smell of breastmilk. This is vital in helping the baby latch on to the breast properly. Koala breast pads are completely odourless and can be removed just before breastfeeding.

Their anatomical design makes them invisible underneath clothes, and so comfortable you can hardly feel they are there. EASY TO USE: Apply a drop of breast milk inside the nipple shield cups so they adhere well to your breasts. Place them on your nipples and then put on your bra. To clean them, simply mix a little water and baking soda to create a cream that should then be rubbed gently with a soft cloth. This will allow the silver cups to become shiny again.

My breastfeeding journey with my 3 week old has been pretty rough to start. I started off leaving the hospital with damaged nipples after the birth of my baby and breastfeeding was excruciating. I bought these nipple cups back then because the Amazon reviews for these and similar products seemed to suggest that silver cups were a miracle cure, and I was desperate. These Koala ones were more affordable than others. I didn’t get much use out of them back then because I found when I followed the recommended instructions (to apply some freshly-expressed breastmilk into the cups and then wear them on your nipples), these were also causing me pain. I think it was because the breast milk dried into a crust that was causing the cups to stick to my nipples, cause friction, etc. They also tended to move around/slide around inside my bra and stretch/pull my nipples out of place. It would result in a sharp, prickly feeling, so I stopped using them.Turned out my baby had tongue, lip, and cheek ties that were causing us both a lot of grief with breastfeeding, so in the meantime I went to exclusively pumping and my nipples had time to heal. I’m now trying to get re-established with breastfeeding after my baby had a frenotomy two days ago. Unfortunately, that means I get to go through the excruciating nipple-toughening phase all over again, and I’m having some soreness between nursing sessions, and sometimes during. I really can’t stand fabric from my bras/shirts rubbing my sore nipples, but I also won’t go topless because I don’t like dripping milk all over myself. I gave these silver cups another try, but what I do now is coat my whole nipple and areola in lanolin, then spray a little bit of Legendairy pump lube inside the silver cups. I place them on my nipples, then put my Kea Babies nursing pads over them inside of a loose nursing bra. Those nursing pads are conical so they help keep the silver cups in place and stop them from sliding around inside my bra. I do believe doing things this way helps heal up my nipples because I will notice my pain between and with nursing sessions decreases throughout the day.If nothing else, these are great for just stopping friction/rubbing from clothes, and they are a better alternative than the silicone nipple shields because there is no ring to press a painful, circular indent into your areola. If you know, you know. I have similar problems when I leave the Haakaa Ladybugs and Momcozy collection cups in my bra for a long time.Maybe not the miracle cure others have advertised, but still a worthwhile investment for me.

They’re okay- I prefer just nipple cream
I thought these would help with nipple pain and I have not used them since leaving the hospital with my baby. The nipple cream has helped way more than these, so if you’re deciding between these or nipple cream, I would recommend to just buy the cream!

After reading many recommendations online, I decided to get silver shields just in case I experienced nipple pain while breastfeeding.They are very easy to use, require no additional creams, and provide quick relief after feeding. Sometimes I used them with a few drops of breast milk, which really helped with cracks. These shields turned out to be a great support in the early days of breastfeeding.I definitely recommend having them on hand for any mom planning to breastfeed.
