Best potty training purchase – small child seat is perfect
After reading a lot of reviews, we landed with this one. Took 5 minutes to install on our 2018 Kohler elongated toilet. Fits perfectly. The kids seat is small so he shouldn’t be able to fall through. Easy to lift up and the kids seat raises with the lid. You just have to train your toddler to pull it back down – I showed him once and he’s had no problems. Since my son has been closing the lid on the toilet to flush for us for over a year, this is great b/c the other products I started him with (and will mention below) didn’t allow him to close the lid which frustrated him (not to mention without being able to close it he just leans over and watches it flush which is pretty gross). I really wish I’d started with this. After just a few days with it, I ordered a second one for our other toilet.Other potty training products we would purchase again:Oh Crap! You don’t have to read the whole thing as she warns you up front. Seems fairly logical. I made a decision early on that none of the potty training stuff would be colorful kids stuff. This toilet looks exactly like the ones we use. He loved the fact that he had a little toilet to use just like ours and he loves dumping out the contents into the big toilets. It was great for the 1st few days so that he was always close to a toilet. Now we use it outside of his room for night time easy access.Dual Height 2 Step Stool (Mom’s Choice Award Winner) for Toddlers and Kidshttps://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B078WMBCRS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1Sturdy. Easy to clean. Purchased to reach sinks and now using for reaching toilets as well. 14″ high. Travel bag for storage which fits extra liners is also great. Initially my son didn’t want to sit on this but once he did I had to hide it because he wanted to keep trying it. I’ve placed one over a machine washable piddle pad. I figured after reading a ton of meh reviews on all of these things that doing a double layer of a washable pad with a disposable on top couldn’t hurt. What I can say is that the opening for these disposables is smaller than either of the machine washable pads I bought (and that’s where the leaks happen from reading all of the reviews). You do have to be careful in positioning the child in the seat b/c it’s easy for the sides and back to fold down so that it probably wouldn’t do it’s job properly.Summer Infant Deluxe Piddle Pad, Blackhttps://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B004U7OQWW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1Haven’t tested this in action so can’t review. Sturdier than it looks but I feel like a step stool to a regular toilet seat with a kid seat attached is probably safer. I wish I’d saved $30 and just gone for the toilet seat with the kid seat built in first (which took less time to swap out on our toilet than this step stool took to assemble).Squatty Potty The Original Bathroom Toilet Stoolhttps://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B06Y2JMP7B/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1I rated this 2 stars and I’m not sure why I didn’t give it 1 star.I bought this on the recommendation from “Oh Crap Potty Training”. It’s my least favorite of the things I’ve purchased for this process. We have Kohler toilets with a squared base. This does not fit around the base so I can’t get it anywhere near the toilet. The only toilet it sort of fits is in the master bath. We have the higher comfort fit toilets and with both layer my small-almost-3-year-old can’t touch his feet when on the toilet. The stools I purchased are higher and easier to get on. I’m not even sure how they are supposed to navigate getting on this – I think he’s supposed to step up while facing away? That seems a bit tough. If I can find the packaging I’ll return it.

Fantastic seat, only wrote this to address the (few) bad reviews
I’ve actually owned one of these for a year or so.Recently I decided to also replace my downstairs toilet seat and while I was picking this up (again) I was very surprised to see a lower rating than I would have expected. I’ve had such a nice experience with my last one that I just had to read through the low ratings to see what other people had issues with. Thus, if you want a nice review going over the nice features, you should read one of the many other reviews. I had to post to address some of the negative ones as I think this may help clear some things up.Here are the issues some other people had, and my thoughts on them:1. Plastic screws: I love these, actually. I just removed another seat that had been on for some time with plastic screws and it was one of the easiest replacements I’ve ever had. Why? Because the plastic screws don’t rust. If you’ve tried to remove old metal screws, you’ll know what an amazingly horrid process it is to try and unscrew them once they have had time to corrode. Some people were concerned with the strength of plastic. But not one of the complainers actually had one break (in the reviews I read, at any rate). I’ve had zero issues with strength, as they are pretty beefy. And if someone is concerned that they aren’t metal, perhaps they are a very large person planning on sitting on the toilet while being launched into orbit on a rocket. Otherwise I don’t think this is an issue. Please note that the install package does have metal screws in rubber sleeves which seem to be for certain types of toilets, but I didn’t use them as they didn’t look like they would work with my toilet. Perhaps they would if I tried, but I like the plastic ones.2. The possibility of the seat sliding around (This may be related to the metal screw complaint as well). I don’t know if the original seat came without the rubber pieces, or if people are just not using them, but when you receive the seat, it comes with two pieces of rubber that can be used under the mounting feet to provide a stronger hold on the toilet after installation. The instructions seem to treat these as optional, and I’m wondering if the people who complained about the seat sliding around after a bit just didn’t use these. I’ve used them for both of the seats I installed (including the one I purchased a year go) and I have had no issues with either one coming lose and sliding around. I have very active kids and two adults who use this thing and we have yet to have any issues.3. Too small?: A number of people have complained that the child sized seat is too small to allow their child to pee properly. I believe this may be associated with (slightly larger?) boys in the process of potty training. I noticed that all complaints appeared to be posted by parents with boys. It may be that this is a tad tight for boys, but I don’t know as I have a two year old girl. It fits her just fine, and I am comfortable saying that any parents with girls would have no issues. I’m afraid that I can’t address any issues experienced by boys as I just don’t know.4. Too large? I noticed that a couple of complaints were of people saying that the kids seat was too large for their child. I have a two year old who is small for her age. She has no issues. In fact, the reason I am replacing the seat on a second toilet was because my daughter was having problems using a training seat on top of the downstairs toilet, while upstairs she has had no issues using this seat. Simply put: it’s working better than my other training seats. Some other comments to clear up some questions I noticed:The seat is slow close for the adult seat, and also for the lid. the child’s training seat is not on slow close, but it’s very light and my kids would probably be annoyed by a slow close anyway (also, good luck finding something that has all three pieces as slow close). As the adults don’t use the kids lid, they don’t care that it is not slow close. The cool thing is that the kids seat is held up by magnets (hidden in the lid, so they won’t rust) and fits neatly in the bottom of the lid and opens with the lid. You can essentially forget that it is even there and leave it installed with no issues even after your kid has gone to college and left the home. Heck, leave it there and have the occasional visitor with toddlers give you some serious kudos for the seat.As for the slow close, it works well even after a year or so on the seat I have owned for around a year and I’m very happy with it.Anyways, I love this seat or I wouldn’t have gone to the trouble to respond to the negative comments. It is kind of pricey, but it’s worth the buckeroos for the way it just makes your life easier while you forget it’s even there.

Perfect for my toddler.

Great product, not my favorite solution
We got this for our kids bathroom. It was easy to install and great for potty training. However, when we moved I didn’t want to have to do this again, so I found portable seats that I think are easier to use than these. This is a really great product if that is what you’re looking for though. They close very easily and are very sturdy for the kids.

The best toddler/small child potty option
Before using this built in potty training toilet seats, we had tried the removable cushioned kids seats that sit on top of the normal toilet seat. These were not stable, they moved around a lot and fell into the toilet twice. Then we moved on to the seats that have attached ladders. These were definitely more sturdy, but still required an adult to set them up (on one toilet we have both a small child and adults using the powder room, so we switch between kids and adults seats) and put them away after the kid uses them. I thought this was a pretty okay setup until I learned that there were normal seats with kids seats integrated. Since the goal was to not just potty train, but have our child be able to go to the bathroom without our assistance, the seats with ladders were not the ultimate solution.Once these built in potty training seats were installed, we did a test run, and our kid was able to use a step stool and get up on the very stable seat all by himself. Victory. And when we need to use the seat, all we have to do is lift the child seat, extremely convenient. This product is an all around win.And if you’re curious, the adult seat is sturdy too. Fits our elongated toilet perfectly.
